Abstract

We propose new imperatives at the moment of readjusting the views on the Latin American art world, those that from the academy and humanistic studies can assume with greater justice the complexities of this time. We try to respond to this demand from an epistemic and interdisciplinary displacement for the study of popular artistic practices, generally understood as those that are deployed in the rural world and peripheral to the institutional perspectives of what is called Art. To this end, we will resort to the notion of "situated knowledge" developed by Donna Haraway in order to detonate a reflective dimension that is often invisible, illuminating a basic aspect of the popular artistic world that emanates from a double condition: that of being mainly performed by women and the specific geographic situation in which they develop their trades. In view of this, the Popular Art of Quinchamalí pottery emerges in Chile as an example of this mode of knowledge, as it is developed by women as a result of the indissoluble link of this practice with its landscape. Since the beginning of colonial times in America, we can recognize in them a territorial resistance expressed, on the one hand, through the perseverance of imaginaries molded in black clay and, on the other hand, through the transformation of the raw material in harmony with the ways of inhabiting their territory. They have transmitted these knowledges for generations, confronting the onslaught that the economic and cultural model has tried to impose on them.
